For over 80 years, the Newman Association has brought together Christians who seek to explore their faith with both heart and mind.
Saint John Henry Newman
John Henry Newman (1801-1890) was one of the most influential religious thinkers of the 19th century. An Anglican clergyman who converted to Catholicism, he became a Cardinal and was canonised as a saint in 2019.
Newman championed the role of the educated layperson in the Church. He believed that faith and reason work together, and that Christians should be able to articulate and defend their beliefs thoughtfully.
In 2025, Pope Leo XIV declared Newman a Doctor of the Church—one of only 37 individuals in history to receive this honour—recognising his outstanding contribution to theology and the universal Church.
